Thank you for the opportunity to help you with ideas in creating a beautiful home for you and your family. After going over your project description, concerns and goals, I found the strongest approach to designing your home would be through understanding the solar exposure. The design should incorporate sun shading devices, which I believe can be vertical louvers at the Southern facade and horizontal elements along the Eastern and Western facades.
I am incorporating horizontal windows on the Western facade of the entry level - at the proposed kitchen and slightly larger height horizontal slat windows at the lower level Western Facade - at the office and bedrooms 3 and 4.
You stated an enhanced front facade to increase curb appeal as a significant goal and are willing to budget more for the front Northern facade. As the location of Austin also requires a lifestyle of comfortable outdoor decks and since you have a desirable Southeasterly lake view, I believe the North and South facades must be given much importance in budget and decision making. Your deliverable items call for two proposals, with and without roof modifications. It may be best, if you are considering to increase the budget, to place attention to these sun shading devices at the South facade. Though the materiality and design of the existing facades are lacking, the existing shed roof lines can be retained. They can be beautifully and economically strengthened in aesthetic through your desire of contemporary and industrial material specifications - without having to spend the extra finance on completely reinventing the roof. The comfort and economic goals of your project can be met by a budget focus on the proposed incorporation of vertical louvers, concrete or ceramic tiles (Porcelanosa), and a fibre-cement rainscreen system.
You have mentioned being receptive to a redesign of your proposed floor plans. Even if my facade proposals are not to your liking, I hope you will consider my minor revisions of the floor plans.
Please find links below to the materials specified in my proposals:
Facade panel: EQUITONE - http://www.archdaily.com/catalog/us/products/6922/facade-panel-materia-equitone @ the South facade.
Bonded Facade panels: PORCELANOSA - http://www.porcelanosa-usa.com/products/building-solutions/exterior-facades/bonded-facades.html @ the TV Niche Vertical Emphasis on South Facade
Ventilated Facade system: PORCELANOSA - http://www.porcelanosa-usa.com/products/building-solutions/exterior-facades/krion-ventilated-facades.html @ the South Facade [I believe any use of an air gap and double facade at the South would greatly increase your comfort levels inside your home at the southern spaces. Concrete or Ceramic Porcelanosa tiled panels attached to the facade as a second skin with an air gap can retain the solar heat without transferring it to the interior spaces of your home]

I appreciate your consideration and hope I have helped in some way in your journey!
