Thank you for the opportunity of working on your creek cabin extension, it has been a pleasure to design for such a beautiful setting amongst the trees and edging the waterway.
My design for your site is such that all existing specimen trees are left standing and the new addition steps in and around them creating a centrally enclosed outdoor space that sits comfortably in its setting.
The decking stretches across the entire rear of the building and is accessible from three areas in the house including the lounge, the kitchen and the bedroom through the screened in area.
All the functional rooms are on the left side in the existing cabin and include the master bedroom and bathroom, the second bedroom, the kitchen, the laundry /pantry and the bathroom for visitors.
The entertaining spaces are located on the left side in the new addition and include a formal dining and lounge area with fireplace, this area opens out onto the decking area and beyond to the patio.
The hallway connecting the two sides of the house is fully glazed on its north side to take advantage of the views and so give the house a very open feel.
The limited pallet of natural materials used in all spaces were chosen to fit in well with the site and include rough cut stone and timber and glass.
The connection to the patio is really an extension of the decking as the design places the new addition to your house right beside it. The patio design contains a crescent platform which sits into the top of the existing wall arc, it incorporates a built in BBQ and seating for family gatherings.
I hope the design for your new home will be useful to you in imagining and realising the great potential of this site.
