We have a small 8ft x 7ft space that opens up to our living room. We'd like a design to convert it to a library/study with built-in bookcases while keeping it open to our living room (no added walls). The space should feel more like a library or study space rather than an office because it is connected to our living room.
The major part of the design will be the built-in bookcases. We're looking for a creative design for the bookcases that includes a built-in desk, drawers that pull out for storage space, and cabinets. The desk portion could be a piece of wood that pulls down from the cabinets or could be fully built in. We'd also like to consider a window seat, but it's not a necessity. Finally, the design should include a space for a standalone computer monitor - 27" diagonal. It could be a built-in space or could go on the desk.
We have white trim around our windows and white molding at the floor and ceiling, so the design should incorporate well with that style.
I've attached the exact dimensions of the room and a few pictures. The space opens up to our living room and there is a 1.25ft overhang coming down from the ceiling. The furniture in the pictures can all be removed though we'd like to keep the chair.
Finally, I have included some links from Houzz with design elements that we like. Notice the molding, creative mixes of cabinets, bookcases, and built-in desks, and creative uses of materials - dark wood vs. painted white, glass, fixtures.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
