We're seeking a modern cosmetic face-lift to a 1-story, 3,000 square foot, "L" shaped California home. The house was built in 1973 and its current exterior design is uninspiring. We are looking for a face-lift to make it stand out.
We're only looking for changes to its facade. That means no major structural remodel, but more of a cosmetic face-lift that can accentuate its existing architectural elements.
Therefore all windows and doors will remain the same except for two changes - First, we are replacing the white vinyl windows with black aluminum windows. Second. the window to the right of the garage will be changed to an eight foot sliding glass door. You can see this in the architectural plans. Please include these two elements in your design.
Our photos don't cover the entire house... so we only need designs for the areas that you can see from the photos (general front and side of the house.)
No need for plan drawings; just elevation and/or perspective.
Winner will judged on:
1.) The design is contemporary, affordable, and makes the most of the existing architectural elements (no major structural remodel!). This includes an accurate representation of the penetrations, finishes, and inclusion of material type.
2.) We are especially interested in how to think about the six tall windows on the corner of the house. This house is situated on a corner lot so we really want you all to find a way to make this area much more visually compelling which would greatly elevate the rest of the property.
3.) The renovation is already underway, so again, the winner must keep the redesign necessarily cosmetic, yet capable to driving clear improvement on the existing design. In other words, LESS can be MORE.
Thanks, and good luck!
Have the a modern home that delivers a lot of curb appeal.
Please do not include the use of brick in your design. It is a very expensive building material in california. We do like stucco and wood.
