We currently have a small bedroom (used as play/toy room) and closet (washer), mud room/pantry, and small bathroom that we would like to transform into a master suite. There are a lot of walls and doorways for this small space. The door out leads to a beautiful brick patio. We currently don't have a master suite in the other parts of the house, and my husband and I would like a little privacy and access to our own bath.
We want a bedroom, good closet space, and a bathroom. We understand the bedroom will be on the small size, but we would prefer to use the playroom/closet space for that. We can adjust the interior walls to increase the size of the bath and layout of the closet. In the bath, a double vanity and shower only (no tub) would be great. We would still like a door to the porch, but that could be moved. Right now we are looking for some ideas, but we do hope to be able to complete this project within the next year or two at most, depending on total cost. Plans that our contractor can use would be helpful. In the end, we may have questions for the winning designer, but we should be able to work from plans and images.
Keeping the bath in the same general area will greatly reduce costs. Design wise, we like to keep with the style of our house. It's a 1915 California Bungalow. We love subway tile, beadboard, hexagon tiles, etc. A very classic look.
Affordability and style would be our main selection criteria.
I think what we want is a plan, birds-eye and eye level views would be great, too.
