We are looking to finish a significant portion of our basement. We live in a 4 year old modular house situated on a sloped lot. Part of the basement is at ground level and we have unusually good natural lighting for a basement remodel. The basement itself will include a "multipurpose room" including a kitchenette area, an office/guest bedroom (or perhaps two separate rooms), and a bathroom. Other portions of the basement will be left unfinished.
You can see a drawing in the files section. The drawing has dimensions and some of our original ideas. We really want your ideas because we realized that we needed help. There are three main "sections" of our basement, each separated by steel support beams. The first two sections run parallel to each other. Each section is about 13 feet wide. The first section has a lot of mechanical stuff in the ceiling (plumbing, heating ducts, etc.) It also has our electrical panel, hot water heater, and some other equipment. It is 8 feet high, but we will have to put in soffits for the heating ducts that will drop the ceiling about a foot. It also has drains in the basement slab. The next section is a little longer. It has a few pipes and ducts in the ceiling but not as many. One end of that section lies under a sunroom. It has a sliding glass door and 2 double hung windows. The last section is approximately 22 feet by 15 feet. It runs perpendicular to the other sections. It has 3 double hung windows, each about 36x36. The ceiling is 8 feet and largely unobstructed.
We have put together a series of requirements, a set of pictures, and a floor plan. You can access all of the project documents through our Google Drive link. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1y1mUPWU0EqSHpCZk4wMHlwYkU&usp=sharing Please let us know if you need more information.
Bathroom--We would like a full bathroom, including a shower, toilet (possibly in its own toilet room, a sink/vanity, and maybe a linen closet. This would be both a guest bathroom and a space to be used by kids mostly. We would like to put the toilet in its own “room” if possible. Ideas here will be key.
Office/bedroom/workout room. We would like to have a room that could function as an office or guest bedroom or even a workout room.
Large open multi-purpose room. Our general thought is to leave one big space with the rest of the room where we could put a ping-pong table, watch TV, or have lots of people. We would like to have a kitchenette like space in or near the multi-purpose room. This room would have a sink and counter space. One idea we had was an island in box 2 close to the stairs, perhaps using some shorter cabinets that could make the island more table high instead of counter height (or we could use counter height stools). Your ideas on this topic are important to us.
