1800sf, one storey, dark, no renovation since1976, livable, boring, not enough space, need more rooms, ugly exterior, 3 bedroom, one bath, mud room/laundry room, kitchen, living room, and the one car garage a few steps down is now a bonus room. No presence or wow factor. Ceilings could be higher.
This project will be executed in the next 6-8 months. My preferences run to as much light as possible, an interior of light bright colors, creams and yellows and greens. I have also painted the bottom half of walls a deep blue and the top white though.
We dislike clutter, but do not like sharp edges and stark, no Frank L Wright or Mission style. We like character, classy, and eclectic. I have taken ideas and even fixtures from other countries and mixed them together.
We would like at least 3000sf adding some to the footprint. We can not build to the right or push what is now the kitchen out. The rest we can.
The designer would not need to be onsite, but available for questions.
Add a 2nd storey, columns out front, make the front traditional like Greek Revival or Federal with a 4 column portico. It must be balanced, symmetrical. The back: much glass, a turret would be neat. The 2nd floor needs a room for painting and other art crafting. The Master should be on the ground floor, a walk-in closet at least 12x12 with double closet rods and shelves for shoes and more. We would like an exercise room with room for the plants and trees so many windows and doors, we should have at least a WC for guests on the 1st floor. Other rooms include a bedroom and bath upstairs, office, large eat in kitchen with many cupboards. There is a fireplace to move in the garage room, that room is too narrow. No gray, black, red, strident colors, beige. No carpet. Cupboards do not get glass doors or are open shelves. Nothing is stored on the counters. I cover the fridge and dishwasher with cupboard doors. I do not want to have to seal the counter tops, but do not want Formica either. We do not like stainless steel or cement counters either. We like an island in the kitchen. We like stone, especially dry stack, he likes water features. Decks are good as long as they block as little light from below. We like water radiant heat and towel warmers.
Unique, open, light, executable, mix of ideas, perhaps a mix of architectures and cultures.
